Cyanocobalamin vs methylcobalamin
Most research and most supplements use cyanocobalamin, which is stable and well studied. Methylcobalamin and other forms are different cobalamin compounds; studies comparing their effect on blood markers have produced varying results, and no form is established here as superior for any outcome.

- Metformin
- Long-term metformin use is associated with lower B12 status. People on metformin are often advised to have B12 monitored; supplementation decisions belong with the prescribing clinician.
- Acid-suppressing drugs (PPIs and H2 blockers)
- Proton-pump inhibitors and H2-receptor antagonists reduce stomach acid, which is needed to release B12 from food. Long-term use is associated with lower B12 status; discuss monitoring with a doctor.
- High-dose vitamin C
- Some sources advise taking high-dose vitamin C separately from B12, as vitamin C may degrade cobalamin in supplements. The practical effect is uncertain, but dose separation is a common precaution.
- Chloramphenicol and other medications
