Why do both names appear?

Both “magnesium glycinate” and “magnesium bisglycinate” are names used to describe a magnesium compound in which magnesium is bound to glycine, an amino acid. The two terms are used in product titles, retailer listings, and on labels themselves, and a shopper will reasonably encounter both.

  • Serving size — how many tablets, capsules, or grams the listed amounts refer to.
  • Servings per container — how many servings the package holds, which sets the total elemental magnesium in the container.
  • Elemental magnesium amount where disclosed — the figure declared in the Supplement Facts panel, which is the number to use for comparison.
  • Other ingredients — additional forms or compounds that may also contribute magnesium, plus any non-magnesium actives and fillers.
  • Manufacturer / product information — the brand, the market, and how clearly the company documents what is in the product.
  • Verification / testing information where documented — any documented third-party testing or certification, recorded as attributed rather than independently confirmed by this site.

When these fields are present and clear, you have what you need to compare two products on equal terms regardless of which form name they print. When a field is missing or ambiguous, the honest response is to flag the gap — not to fill it with a guess.
